Simple picture. Light was fading fast, I wanted to get a picture with the dusk sky in the background. The light is a bare SB600 trigerred with Nikon CLS camera right. Approximately 2 feet away. I placed Mike's head in front of the setting sun and fired a couple of shots.

The SB600 had a 1/4 CTO gel on it. In post, the picture has been desaturated a little and sharpened for web.

Both triggered with CLS via the pop up flash. Power above at 1/6.4 and below at 1/10 set manually.

This picture was made for the Strobist Boot Camp II: Assignment#2. I created it in two parts.

Part one was exposing the can itself and part two was creating the swish behind it. The can was exposed by light from an SB600 at its lowest setting, very close to the can camera left. The light is diffused by the use of a piece of kitchen towel. Light is reflected back onto the can camera right by use of a folded piece of paper. The first few images were made on the table top which I didn't like much. A black box was used to change the background and the surface black.

Part two was creating the swish. The exposure was set to two and a half seconds to allow enough time to create the swish. The light to create the swish is from the lit screen of my mobile phone. It took me around 70 attempts to create the look I was looking for.

PP - desaturated and dodged the swish to bring out the whites.

Lighting info - SB600 camera left through homemade diffuser. Gelled SB600 on laptop (1/2 CTB). Both strobes fired with CLS.

Levitation

D40 with 18-55 kit lens. Composite, first image was of me sitting on a stool and second was of background. Lighting info - gridded strobe high camera left pointed at face and strobe through white shoot thru camera right.

On camera SB24 bounced off ceiling at 1/2 power. Off camera SB26 at camera right at 1/8 power bounced off side wall.

This was taken at the London strobist meet on 22 Feb 09 at the pub before we went out to the location

JW joined us (all the way from Alaska) at the London Strobist social on 11 March 09.

Gareth brought his Rayflash ring flash adopter, so we decided to take some test shots. The camera was lent by Huy .

Strobist - SB600 in ring flash handheld fired via CLS. D300 with a Sigma 10-20 lens (also Huys!)
